Dear Sonja, 005: Phlegm, Penelope Scott, Brazilian Body Percussion, and more
Actually not much more.
Dear Sonja,
I owe you a letter! I was gently trying tot send one of these every week, but between dance concert and contracting a nasty little cough my energy has not been focused enough to sit down and send off a letter.
Dance concert, after the hell that was tech Sunday, turned out to be really fun, though I did catch a cold in the middle of the week which made it slightly less fun. I'm still a little phlegm-y but getting better, and soon I will be home!! (Less than 48 hours yayayayayay).
In reading news, I'm a little more than halfway through A Swim in the Pond in the Rain, which is an absolutely fantastic book by George Saunders on writing. He basically breaks down 7 different Russian short stories and explains how they're doing what they're doing and why. It's really cool to read and very insightful. I'm enjoying it a lot, though it's a little bit hard to get through because some of the stories are really long, and I don't like to split up reading the story and the essay, so I need to carve out like, an hour, before I can start reading it. I'm thinking that maybe when I'm home I won't read anything challenging and intense and instead just relax and read some fun books.
The intensity of this past week has also launched me back deep into my Penelope Scott phase. I don't want to talk about it except to say that Hazards was a better EP than anyone on TikTok thinks, and I still love it very much.
Right now, I'm listening to this Barbatuques album. (Yes, because of that one song on TikTok). I don't know what to say about it other than it goes extremely hard? Like shockingly hard. Like this slaps and I will not back down on that.
Ok, maybe it's that I'm still a little bit sick and so I have no thoughts in my head, but I think that's all that's going on. I cannot wait to see you so soon! I cannot wait to be in New York!! This is very exciting for me!! Hurrah! My Massachusetts exile ends!
See you soon (in person?!! not clickbait!)
